What Bedplate does
Bedplate is a viewer for 3D printing files: 3MF projects, G-code and STL. It shows your prints in 3D, lists the plates and objects in a project, and reads the print info your slicer saved: material, filament weight and length, print time, printer and profile, plus an estimated filament cost. It also adds Quick Look previews, Finder thumbnails and Spotlight search for these files. Everything runs on your Mac, with no account and no internet connection.
Getting started
- Open Bedplate. The Library window appears.
- Click Add Folder… (or choose File → Add Folder to Library…, ⇧⌘O), or drag a folder from Finder onto the window.
- Your 3MF, G-code and STL files appear as a grid of thumbnails with material, time and weight. Search by name, filter by type, material or printer, and sort by name, date, print time or weight.
- Double-click a file to open it in the viewer. To open a single file, use File → Open… (⌘O).
Requires macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Works on Apple silicon and Intel Macs.

Frequently asked questions
How do I add or remove folders in the Library?
Click Add Folder… in the Library, use File → Add Folder to Library… (⇧⌘O), or drag folders onto the Library window. Subfolders are included. To remove one, right-click it in the sidebar and choose Remove from Library; your files stay where they are. Click Refresh to pick up new or changed files.
How do I turn on Quick Look previews and Finder thumbnails?
Open Bedplate once after installing it, so macOS registers its extensions. Then select a .3mf, .gcode or .stl file in Finder and press Space.
If you don't see a preview or thumbnails, make sure the extensions are on:
- macOS 15 Sequoia and later: System Settings → General → Login Items & Extensions → scroll to Extensions → Quick Look (and Thumbnails, if shown) and turn on Bedplate.
- macOS 14 Sonoma: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Extensions → Quick Look and turn on Bedplate.
Finder may keep old thumbnails for a while. Relaunching Finder (hold ⌥, right-click Finder in the Dock, choose Relaunch) usually refreshes them.
Can I search my prints with Spotlight?
Yes. Bedplate includes a Spotlight importer, so Spotlight can find 3MF, G-code and STL files by object names, printer, material and slicer. Open Bedplate once so macOS picks up the importer. New and changed files are indexed automatically; older files are indexed as Spotlight gets to them.
Why does my file show no print time, weight or cost?
Those values come from the slicer. A 3MF project only has them after it has been sliced in a slicer that saves that information (for example, a sliced project or plate), and G-code has them in the comments your slicer writes. Plain 3D models (STL or unsliced 3MF) have geometry only, so Bedplate shows the model and its size but no print info. Bedplate never invents values: anything the file doesn't include is simply hidden.
How is the cost estimated?
Cost = filament weight read from the file × your filament price per kilogram. Set the price and currency in Bedplate → Settings… (⌘,). The estimate covers filament only.
How do I see one plate or object of a project?
Open a multi-plate 3MF project. The sidebar lists All plates and every plate with its objects. Select a plate to see only its geometry and its own print info. If the slicer saved an image of the plate, use the 3D / Slicer image switch in the toolbar.
What can I export?
In the viewer, click Export in the toolbar:
- Current View as PNG… or Slicer Image as PNG…
- 360° Turntable as an Animated GIF… or an MP4 Video…
- The print info as PDF…, Markdown… or Plain Text…, or Copy as Text
Files are saved only where you choose.
Can I use Bedplate with Shortcuts?
Yes. Bedplate adds two actions to the Shortcuts app: Show 3MF/STL/G-code Info and Render 3MF/STL/G-code Thumbnail.
Will Bedplate change which app opens my files?
No. Bedplate registers as an alternate viewer, so double-clicking a file still opens it in your slicer. To open a file in Bedplate, use Open With → Bedplate in Finder, drag it onto Bedplate, or open it from the Library.
Does Bedplate send my files anywhere?
No. Bedplate has no network access and collects no data. See the privacy policy.
How do I uninstall Bedplate?
Quit Bedplate and drag it from Applications to the Trash. Its Quick Look extensions and Spotlight importer are removed with it. Your 3D files are never touched.

Ayuda
¿Preguntas, problemas o ideas?
Requiere macOS 14 Sonoma o posterior.

- Current View as PNG… o Slicer Image as PNG…
¿Bedplate envía mis archivos a algún lado?
